Sunday March 23 – Homeless Outreach w/Immersion Church

From Immersion Church:
“Currently, we are collecting warm clothes; jackets, gloves, beanies, warm socks. Boots, umbrellas, tarps, sleeping bags, hand warmers, backpacks, etc.
Then we set a date, Currently 1 day bi-monthly but hoping to increase to monthly if more people are willing to lead but currently, my schedule will only allow for bi-monthly.
We ask people in the church to provide a crockpot of hot food (day of) And then we split up into a few cars and go out on the street. Usually we have three or four cars and about four people in each car. 2 crockpots per car, bags of clothes, water, granola bars, etc.
We see people and ask if they are hungry and then provide them food, any clothing we may have, and talk to them about God. We ask their name, their story & just get to know them. We share our story, ask if we can pray for them, etc. Some are not interested & that’s ok. Some sit & talk & really let us build a relationship with them. It’s beautiful
We leave the church around 12pm. I suggest eating before going out so you’re not hungry as you distribute food & can focus on what God has us doing.
If I can get a head count, that is helpful? We try to split up in cars of 4 or 5 people. So if I know our total # of people, I know how many cars I need to divide the clothing/food/water into.
We ask for people to bring a crockpot of hot food & or sandwiches, day of. Granola bars, water bottles, clothing donations, shoes, disposable utensils, to-go food containers are collected ahead of time.
We start with offering food & items, then offer prayer & talk to them about the hope we have in Jesus! Share your own testimony? Ask God for ways to connect & create open dialog that doesn’t feel forceful.
Children can definitely go if the parents feel comfortable. I’ve brought both of my girls. They usually help with the food part & asking if they need any clothes… I welcome children to participate but parents need to be responsible for guiding them in safety & appropriate behavior/conversation.”
